Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse, T3 Heathrow

The Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse with À la carte dining, complimentary spa, cocktail bar. One of Europe's best business class lounges.

Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse — Terminal 3, London Heathrow

The Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse is the lounge that most frequently appears on lists of the best airport lounges in the world — and unlike most entries on those lists, the reputation is broadly deserved. It is an Upper Class lounge in design, spirit, and execution: a large, deliberately theatrical space with a cocktail bar at its centre, a brasserie serving à la carte food, and a layout that encourages you to spend time there rather than simply wait. For a business class product that sits below the very best in the world on the aircraft, the ground experience at T3 is genuinely exceptional and represents one of the strongest arguments for booking Virgin Atlantic over its competitors on transatlantic routes.

The current Clubhouse has been in its T3 location since 2006 and has been refurbished several times since. A significant multi-million-pound phased renovation began in January 2026, with the first phase now complete and further changes — including a rooftop terrace — still to come. The lounge has remained open throughout, with work carried out section by section. The result of phase one is a materially improved space: new in-lounge spa and wellness facilities, reworked seating, two dedicated work pods, an updated cinema, and a new invitation-only VIP area called the Royal Box. Access is primarily through Upper Class travel and Virgin Flying Club Gold status, with SkyTeam Elite Plus providing a route for non-VS flyers. It does not accept Priority Pass, LoungeKey, or any card-access programme — this is a pure airline lounge, and the exclusivity is part of what makes it function as well as it does.

The Lounge

The Clubhouse is designed to feel like a destination rather than a waiting room, and it largely succeeds. The centrepiece is a long cocktail bar that runs through the middle of the space — staffed, well-stocked, and deliberately social in character. Around it, the lounge divides into a brasserie dining area with booth seating, a more relaxed lounge zone with armchairs and low tables, the newly reworked Gallery overlooking the apron, dedicated work pods, a redesigned cinema, and quieter seating along the window wall. The floor-to-ceiling windows and consistent natural light make it one of the more pleasant lounge environments at Heathrow regardless of time of day.

Phase one of the 2026 refurbishment has meaningfully improved several areas. The Gallery — always the most popular part of the lounge for its panoramic runway views — has been reconfigured with more efficient single and double seating to replace the large tables that previously forced solo travellers to occupy four-person space. Artwork from British artists, warm brass finishes, improved acoustic panels, and UK-produced lighting give the section a more considered feel. The cinema has been quietly transformed from a large-screen TV corner into something closer to a private screening room, with acoustic treatment and Bluetooth headphone connectivity making it genuinely usable. The two new work pods — The Townhouse and The Manor — are the most practically significant addition for business travellers: soundproofed, properly equipped, and bookable by the look of the illuminated door signs. The invitation-only Royal Box at the rear of the lounge is not accessible to all guests, but its presence signals that Virgin is thinking about differentiated experiences within the Clubhouse rather than treating all Upper Class passengers identically.

Food & Drink

Food is served à la carte with table service for hot dishes, alongside a deli-style counter offering lighter options — salads, charcuterie, cheese, pastries and similar — available throughout the day on a help-yourself basis. The combination gives the lounge more flexibility than either a pure buffet or a pure table-service room: you can graze at the deli counter on a short connection or sit down for a full brasserie meal on a longer pre-departure stay. The lunch and dinner menus rotate seasonally and include a mix of British and international dishes at a standard that consistently outperforms what you will find in the cabin. The kitchen is not infallible — quality can vary between visits — but at its best the brasserie produces food that would hold its own in a decent high street restaurant.

The bar is the lounge’s most celebrated feature, and justifiably so. The cocktail list is genuinely considered — not the perfunctory offering typical of airport bars — and the spirits selection is broad. Laurent Perrier Brut is the house champagne. Beer and soft drinks are complimentary throughout. The bar staff are knowledgeable and, at quieter periods, engaging. Coffee is made to order. The overall drinks experience is the best of any lounge at T3 and competes credibly with the best business class lounge bar offerings in Europe.

Wellness, Spa and Showers

The 2026 refurbishment has substantially upgraded the wellness offering. Three Somadome meditation pods — enclosed personal cocoons combining light therapy, sound healing, binaural beats, and guided meditation — are available at no charge until 31 May 2026. Each session runs to around 20 minutes. The pods are self-guided and designed for use immediately before boarding. Whether or not they become a permanent fixture beyond the trial period has not been confirmed.

Until 30 April 2026, Secret Spa is operating a paid treatment concession within the Clubhouse. The menu covers express massages, facials, manicures, and other treatments. Therapists use OSKIA skincare and OPI nail products, alongside a selection of Korean beauty brands — the latter timed to coincide with Virgin Atlantic’s new Seoul route. Treatments are bookable on arrival at the Clubhouse; advance booking is not currently available. Passenger feedback in the early weeks has been positive, and Virgin is understood to be considering a permanent arrangement if the trial holds up.

Shower suites remain complimentary and are located within the spa area. Toiletries are REN Skincare; towels, hairdryers, and additional amenities are provided. Condition is consistently reported as excellent. Book at the spa desk on arrival.

Getting In

The Clubhouse access picture is simpler than most airline lounges: Upper Class ticket or Flying Club Gold status, both on VS-operated flights only. SkyTeam Elite Plus adds a route for holders of top-tier status with Delta, Air France-KLM, Korean Air or other SkyTeam carriers — but only when travelling on a Virgin Atlantic flight, not on the SkyTeam carrier itself. The access is tied to the operating carrier, not the alliance membership alone.

There is no day pass or paid walk-up option, which is a deliberate policy choice by Virgin — the lounge is kept exclusive to preserve the product quality. This means the only way to access the Clubhouse without status is to fly Upper Class, which starts from around £2,000–£3,000 for a transatlantic return at sale prices. Virgin Atlantic moved to dynamic award pricing in October 2024, so Virgin Points redemption costs vary significantly by date, route, and demand — one-way saver rates to/from the US East Coast have been observed as low as 29,000 points, while peak dates can cost multiples of that. Always search current availability rather than planning around a fixed figure. On a points redemption in Upper Class, Clubhouse access is one of the most tangible incremental benefits over booking economy.

★ ELITE TIP

Virgin Flying Club Gold is achievable for dedicated VS flyers but requires 1,000 tier points in a membership year — the number of flights needed depends on route and cabin class, so check the tier points earning table on virgin-atlantic.com for your specific itinerary. If you are close to Gold at year-end and have a T3 departure coming up, the Clubhouse access alone is a meaningful argument for a status run.

SkyTeam Elite Plus via a partner carrier (particularly Delta or Air France) is the most accessible route to Clubhouse access without significant VS-specific flying. With phase one of the 2026 refurbishment now complete, this is also one of the better moments to use a points redemption for an Upper Class ticket — the lounge is in better shape than it has been for several years, with phase two improvements still to arrive. Note that Virgin Atlantic uses dynamic award pricing: always search current availability rather than assuming a fixed points cost.

✦ PTP LOUNGE RATING

One of the best business class lounges at Heathrow and among the best in Europe. The 2026 refurbishment has meaningfully raised the standard: the new work pods, reworked Gallery, redesigned cinema, and Secret Spa partnership all represent genuine improvements rather than cosmetic changes. Phase two — including a rooftop terrace — is still to come.

The combination of à la carte table service, a serious cocktail bar, and a well-maintained space makes the Clubhouse the strongest argument for choosing Virgin Atlantic on transatlantic routes where alternatives are available. It does not compete with the very best first class lounges globally — but as a business class product, the ground experience consistently exceeds what BA offers at T5 for the equivalent cabin. REN Skincare in the showers; Laurent Perrier Brut as the house champagne.
