The Singapore EDITION

Opened 2023 on Orchard Road, the first EDITION in Southeast Asia. Strong Marriott Bonvoy earning, dynamic pricing from 64,000 points, and a rooftop pool worth the rate.

The Singapore EDITION — Hotel Review

The Singapore EDITION opened in late 2023 — soft-launched in November, with its grand opening following in May 2024 — as the first EDITION property in Southeast Asia. Conceived by Ian Schrager in collaboration with Safdie Architects and local firm DP Architects, it occupies a quiet side street at the western end of the Orchard Road shopping district, a short walk from Orchard MRT and the UNESCO-listed Singapore Botanic Gardens. The eight-floor building is relatively compact at 204 rooms, and that sense of scale carries through the entire hotel: the lobby is never chaotic, the pool never overwhelmed, and the service has been characterised by reviewers as attentive rather than institutional.

The design language is unmistakably EDITION — a gold-leaf-domed lobby ceiling, a signature black tea scent throughout the public areas, a white Venetian plaster spiral staircase descending to a sunken garden courtyard, and a Lobby Bar finished in pink velvet with a rose-coloured Calacatta marble pool table. Rooms follow the brand’s minimalist aesthetic: white oak floors, hand-sewn damask throws, bay windows with precise sheer and blackout control, and Le Labo bath amenities. For Marriott Bonvoy members considering this property, the critical context is that EDITION sits in a distinct category within the programme: elite welcome gifts are points only — breakfast is not available as an amenity choice at this brand, regardless of tier. The property makes up for this with Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts participation, which offers a more generous benefits stack for eligible cardholders.

Location

The hotel occupies 38 Cuscaden Road, a quiet residential street running parallel to Orchard Road at its western end. It is around one block from the main shopping strip, close to Wheelock Place and Tanglin Mall, and walking distance from Orchard MRT. The immediate neighbourhood — framed by the Botanic Gardens on one side and the luxury retail corridor on the other — is one of Singapore’s most pleasant for walking, and the relatively low foot traffic on Cuscaden Road itself means the hotel entrance feels calmer than the addresses of neighbouring properties. The Artyzen Singapore is directly across the street. The St. Regis is approximately 200 metres away.

Getting to and from Changi Airport takes around 20–25 minutes by taxi or Grab. Public transport is less convenient than from a Marina Bay or Bugis property — the journey involves at least one transfer and takes over 50 minutes in good conditions. For guests who plan to spend significant time at the airport — either on arrival or for late flights — a taxi or Grab is the practical choice. For city-based exploring, Orchard MRT puts the rest of Singapore within easy reach.

Rooms

The rooms are the hotel’s strongest suit. Even the Standard and Superior categories begin at 38 sqm, and reviewers consistently note that the base-level rooms feel suite-like compared to comparable-tier rooms at other Singapore properties. The Deluxe category at 48–54 sqm is the recommended entry point: larger, better light, and the added bathtub and shower configuration feels properly generous. White oak-planked floors are softened by warm white rugs, beds are dressed in hand-sewn damask throws, and the window system — with sheer, blackout, and adjustable louvre controls — is one of the more satisfying room details. Bathrooms are spacious throughout, with a deep freestanding bathtub, waterfall shower, and Le Labo amenities. The design is deliberately pared back: EDITION rooms do not pile on decorative accessories, and a small number of reviewers have found the result too clinical. For those who respond to restraint, it is quietly excellent.

The Garden room categories face the hotel’s sunken garden courtyard and get greenery and natural light rather than city views. The Deluxe King facing the street offers the best of both: room size and whatever passing activity Cuscaden Road provides. Views are not a strong point of this property — the hotel’s eight-floor height and side-street position mean there are no panoramic city vistas from standard rooms. The Orchard Suite at 109–115 sqm and the EDITION Penthouse at 200 sqm, with its private garden terrace and personal pool, represent the upper tier for those pursuing an award or splurge stay.

Dining and Bars

FYSH at EDITION is the hotel’s defining dining venue and one of the most talked-about restaurant openings in Singapore’s recent memory. Australian chef Josh Niland — known internationally for his whole-fish butchery philosophy and sustainable approach to seafood — has created a concept built around ethically sourced fish and seafood prepared via Josper grill. The venue occupies Level 1 alongside the Lobby Bar. Dinner at FYSH draws a significant outside-hotel clientele; reservations are advisable.

The Lobby Bar is the hotel’s social hub at ground level: pink velvet seating, a rose Calacatta marble pool table, and a cocktail and all-day menu that also passes through Josh Niland’s creative direction. Below ground, the Punch Room on Level B4 is an exclusive cocktail bar built around a menu of signature punchbowls — an intimate space that operates as a destination in its own right for Singapore’s cocktail circuit. The Roof on the hotel’s top floor covers the rooftop pool, bar, and restaurant, and functions as both a daytime pool terrace and an evening dining venue.

Pool and Spa

The rooftop pool runs to 43 metres and includes a transparent floor panel — an oculus engineered to provide a direct view down into the garden courtyard below. On a clear day it is one of the more architecturally dramatic hotel pool moments in Singapore. Sun loungers and shaded spots are available around the pool deck, and the views across the Orchard Road low-rise belt are pleasant if not sweeping. The spa on Level 2 is a seven-treatment-room facility with a full thermal circuit — thermal pools, ice fountain, sauna, steam room, and a relaxation lounge — and operates with a distinct white tea scent that separates it from the rest of the hotel. The Technogym-equipped gym is on the same level.

Marriott Bonvoy — Earning and Elite Benefits

★ IMPORTANT — EDITION BRAND NOTE

The EDITION brand sits outside the Marriott Bonvoy elite breakfast benefit. Unlike most full-service Marriott brands where Platinum Elite and above can select complimentary breakfast as their welcome amenity, EDITION properties offer points only as the elite welcome gift — there is no breakfast or food and beverage credit option. This is a published brand policy, not a property-level decision. For Amex Platinum cardholders, booking through Fine Hotels + Resorts resolves this: the FHR rate includes daily breakfast for two as a standard benefit, alongside a property credit and upgrade priority.

Benefit Notes
Award category Marriott Bonvoy uses dynamic pricing; standard rates currently start from approximately 64,000 points per night for base rooms, with significant variation by date. Check the Marriott website for live redemption rates. Cash rates regularly exceed £400–500 per night
Base earn 10 Marriott Bonvoy points per US dollar of eligible spend. Elite bonus on top of base: Silver +10%, Gold +25%, Platinum +50%, Titanium +75%, Ambassador +75%
Welcome gift (Platinum+) Points only — EDITION is excluded from the Marriott Bonvoy elite breakfast benefit programme. There is no option to select complimentary breakfast or a food and beverage credit as a welcome amenity at this brand, regardless of status tier
Breakfast Not available as a Bonvoy elite benefit at this brand. Breakfast at FYSH is otherwise priced à la carte or via a semi-buffet format; budget accordingly. For complimentary breakfast, the Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts rate is the recommended booking path for eligible cardholders
Room upgrade Platinum Elite and above receive space-available room upgrades, including select suites. Early guest reports suggest the property upgrades Platinum members generously relative to other Singapore luxury properties. Room type is not guaranteed at EDITION brand level
Late checkout Guaranteed 4pm late checkout for Platinum Elite and above. This property is not resort-classified, so the guaranteed 4pm benefit applies in full — unlike W Singapore, which is a resort property
Lounge access No club lounge at this property. EDITION hotels do not operate traditional club lounges
Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts The Singapore EDITION participates in Amex FHR. Booking via FHR (requires Amex Platinum or Centurion Card) provides: daily breakfast for two, approximately USD 100 property credit, room upgrade if available, early check-in and 4pm late checkout (subject to availability), and a property-specific amenity. FHR rates still earn Marriott Bonvoy points and count toward elite status. This is the recommended booking path for Amex Platinum cardholders, as it resolves the breakfast gap that exists within the Bonvoy elite programme at this brand
UK earn routes Amex Membership Rewards transfers to Marriott Bonvoy at 1:1. Marriott Bonvoy Amex credit card (UK, £95 annual fee): 15 Elite Night Credits annually, complimentary Silver status, one free night certificate on card anniversary. Marriott Bonvoy Premium Debit Card (£175): Gold status, 15–20 Elite Night Credits, free night certificate. Nectar partnership allows conversion of Nectar points to Bonvoy. Amex Platinum complimentary Marriott Gold status
❖ POINTS TRAVEL PRO VERDICT

The Singapore EDITION is the best-located luxury Marriott Bonvoy property in Singapore for Orchard Road access, and since its 2024 grand opening it has established itself as one of the more distinctive hotels in the city. The rooms are genuinely spacious, the FYSH restaurant is a serious draw, the Punch Room is excellent, and the rooftop pool is one of the better hotel pool experiences in Singapore. The critical caveat for Bonvoy members is the brand-level exclusion from complimentary breakfast — a point that matters in a hotel where even a semi-buffet breakfast is expensive. If you hold an Amex Platinum card, the Fine Hotels + Resorts rate resolves this and makes the property significantly better value; if you do not, factor the breakfast cost into any points-versus-cash comparison. On points, dynamic pricing starts around 64,000 points per night but can go considerably higher on popular dates — the cash rate context (regularly £400+) means a well-timed points redemption on a lower-demand night represents reasonable value. The 4pm guaranteed late checkout as a Platinum and above member (fully honoured here, unlike at the W) is a practical bonus for guests with evening departures.
