Cathay Pacific First Class Lounge — Terminal 3, London Heathrow

The Cathay Pacific First Class Lounge at Heathrow T3 is the quietest and most considered room in the terminal — a compact, calm space designed for a small number of guests rather than for volume. It is not a large lounge, and it does not try to be. The focus is on quality and restraint: a short but well-executed à la carte menu, a noodle bar, a staffed drinks station, and showers that are among the best-maintained at Heathrow. For oneworld Emerald members transiting through T3, it is the default first stop — and on the days when it is running well, it is the best lounge in the terminal.

The lounge sits adjacent to the Cathay Pacific Business Class Lounge on the upper level of T3, accessible via a dedicated lift from the departure hall. The two lounges share a floor but are separated — the First Lounge is smaller, quieter, and noticeably more premium in finish. Access is limited to Cathay Pacific First class ticket holders and oneworld Emerald members flying on a oneworld carrier from T3, which keeps occupancy low and the experience consistent. It does not accept Priority Pass or any card-access programme.

The Lounge

The First Class Lounge has a deliberately understated quality — dark wood, low lighting, generous spacing between seats, and a calm that is partly a function of the small guest numbers the access rules produce. There are no crowds, no queues at the food counter, and no background noise from children’s areas or large group tables. The seating mix covers lounge chairs, a small number of dining tables for the à la carte service, and a bar counter. The finish is noticeably more premium than the Business Lounge on the same floor and has held up well in recent reviews — this is one of the better-maintained airline lounges at Heathrow.

The noodle bar is the lounge’s most distinctive feature and the one most commented on by visitors: a small counter producing made-to-order hot noodle dishes, a Cathay signature carried across their international first class lounges. It is a simple concept executed consistently well, and on a morning departure it represents one of the better pre-flight food options at T3. The overall atmosphere is closer to a quiet members’ club than an airport lounge, which is the intended effect and is largely achieved.

Food & Drink

The food offer combines à la carte table service with the noodle bar. The à la carte menu covers breakfast, lunch and dinner with a rotation of Western and Asian dishes — quality is consistently above what either the Centurion Lounge or the Virgin Clubhouse delivers at equivalent meal periods, though the menu is shorter and less elaborate than the Clubhouse brasserie. The noodle bar operates throughout the day and is the standout option for a quick, well-executed hot dish without a full sit-down meal. Presentation throughout is careful and unhurried.

The First Lounge has limited self-pour drinks available. The full staffed bar — spirits, wine, Champagne and cocktails — is located in the Business Class Lounge next door, which First Lounge guests are free to visit. Coffee is made to order at the bar. Champagne is available and consistent with a first class product. For a full drinks experience, most guests walk through to the Business Lounge bar and return.

Showers

Shower suites are complimentary and shared between the First and Business Class sections — stocked with Bamford toiletries (geranium-scented) and widely regarded as among the best at any UK airport. The dark marble and gold fittings are a genuine step above the airport norm. Low occupancy in the First Lounge means waits are rarely long outside peak CX departure windows. Book at reception on arrival. Towels, hairdryer and additional amenities are provided.

Getting In

For BA Gold members — the most common route to oneworld Emerald for UK travellers — the First Class Lounge at T3 is accessible on any oneworld flight departing T3, regardless of cabin. This means a BA Gold flying Cathay Pacific Business, Qantas, American Airlines, or any other oneworld carrier from T3 can use this lounge rather than defaulting to the Centurion Lounge — a meaningful benefit that many BA Gold members are unaware of. Individual carriers may impose a minimum cabin requirement for partner Emerald access, so confirm with the operating carrier before travel if flying in Economy. The broader point stands: the access rules that apply at T5 (Galleries First for Gold, Concorde Room only for Gold Guest List) do not apply at T3 — oneworld Emerald opens the First Lounge here regardless of cabin on the operating carrier.

The practical implication is worth spelling out: if you hold BA Gold and are routing through T3 on a oneworld carrier, you have access to one of the best-maintained and quietest lounges at Heathrow. The lounge is not large and is not designed for extended stays, but for a pre-departure hour or two it delivers a meaningfully better experience than the Centurion Lounge and, for those who prefer calm over theatre, a better experience than the Virgin Clubhouse.

★ ELITE TIP

BA Gold members flying any oneworld carrier from T3 — including Cathay Pacific Business, Qantas Business, American Airlines, Iberia, Finnair, or Royal Jordanian — can use the Cathay Pacific First Class Lounge rather than the Centurion Lounge or a generic PP lounge. This is one of the least-publicised benefits of BA Gold status and one of the most valuable when routing through T3. Confirm your oneworld Emerald card is with you — the BA Gold card is the physical token.

✦ PTP LOUNGE RATING

The best-maintained lounge at Heathrow T3 and the one that most consistently delivers on its promise. Quiet, well-stocked, and with a noodle bar that no other lounge in the terminal can match, it rewards the oneworld Emerald members and CX First passengers who use it with a pre-departure experience that is genuinely restorative rather than merely functional. BA Gold members transiting T3 should treat this as their default lounge — it is considerably better than what is available at T5 under equivalent status.
