Corinthia London, Westminster
There is a particular kind of London hotel that earns its reputation not through scale alone but through a combination of physical grandeur, serious food and drink, and a spa that guests plan their stay around. Corinthia London is that hotel. Opened in 2011 in the restored Metropole Building on Whitehall Place — a building that began life in 1885 as one of the city’s great Victorian hotels, was commandeered in both world wars, and spent decades as Ministry of Defence offices — it occupies an entire block between Northumberland Avenue and Scotland Yard Road, facing the Thames. The restoration returned to public use one of central London’s most significant buildings, and the result is a hotel that sits comfortably among the finest in Europe.
The 283 rooms and suites average 45 square metres — among the largest standard rooms of any London five-star — with seven two-storey penthouses at the top of the range. ESPA Life at Corinthia spans four floors and is consistently cited as London’s largest hotel spa, with 17 treatment rooms, an indoor swimming pool, vitality pool, amphitheatre sauna, ice fountain, marble heated loungers, and private sleep pods. The dining offer is anchored by Kerridge’s Bar & Grill, Tom Kerridge’s first London restaurant, serving refined British brasserie food in a room designed by David Collins Studio. Mezzogiorno by Francesco Mazzei, which opened in summer 2025 in the former Northall space, brings southern Italian cooking to a grand street-level room. Velvet, the cocktail bar created in partnership with Salvatore Calabrese, operates most evenings with live music. Crystal Moon Lounge serves afternoon tea beneath a chandelier of 1,001 Baccarat crystals.
For loyalty programme purposes, Corinthia London participates in GHA DISCOVERY as part of the Corinthia Hotels brand. The programme’s currency is Discovery Dollars (D$), where D$1 equals USD$1 — a straightforward cashback model rather than a points-and-redemption system. At a property where rack rates regularly exceed £500 per night, earning 5–7% back in D$ on all eligible spend — rooms, dining, spa — represents meaningful value, particularly for guests who will return to another GHA property and spend those D$ down. There is no UK credit card earning GHA Discovery points, so accumulation is entirely stay-based.

Location
Whitehall Place is one of central London’s more quietly impressive addresses — a short street running between the Embankment and Whitehall, flanked by government buildings and a stone’s throw from the Thames. The hotel occupies an entire block here, facing north towards Trafalgar Square and south towards the river. Embankment station is roughly five minutes on foot, giving access to the Circle, District, Bakerloo and Northern lines. Charing Cross mainline station is a similar distance in the other direction.
On foot, the hotel’s position is exceptional. Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery are about ten minutes’ walk north. Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament are fifteen minutes south along the river. Covent Garden, the Strand, and the West End theatres are within easy walking distance east. Buckingham Palace is a twenty-minute walk west through St James’s Park. For guests arriving at Heathrow, the Elizabeth line to Paddington and then District line to Embankment takes around 45 minutes.
Building and Rooms
The Metropole Building was purpose-built as a grand Victorian hotel in 1885 and designed on a scale that has proved its most durable asset — wide corridors, high ceilings, generously proportioned rooms, and a facade of Portland stone that the restoration left largely intact. The 2011 reopening by Corinthia added contemporary interiors by David Collins Studio throughout the public spaces and a complete overhaul of the room stock, producing 283 rooms that blend the building’s historical character with modern hotel standards. The result is a property that does not feel like a conversion despite being precisely that.
Standard rooms average 45 square metres — significantly larger than the London five-star norm, where 30–35 sqm is common. Views vary: Whitehall Place, Great Scotland Yard, Trafalgar Square and the River Thames are all represented across the room categories. Bathrooms are Italian marble throughout with underfloor heating, in-bath television, deep soak bath, and walk-in rain shower. Higher categories step up to Hästens mattresses, private bars, and butler service. The seven duplex penthouses, each individually designed and ranging from 93 to 465 square metres, sit at the top of the building with private terraces or balconies — four have internal lifts.
Dining
The dining offer at Corinthia London is one of the most complete of any London hotel. Kerridge’s Bar & Grill, Tom Kerridge’s first London restaurant, opened in 2018 in the space formerly occupied by Massimo. Interiors are by David Collins Studio; the menu covers refined British brasserie cooking — hearty, seasonal, and executed to a high standard. The restaurant runs lunch and dinner Monday to Friday, with slightly shortened Saturday and Sunday services. The bar operates independently from noon most days.
Mezzogiorno by Francesco Mazzei opened in summer 2025 in the space formerly occupied by The Northall, which closed permanently in July 2025 after over a decade as the hotel’s main European restaurant. Mezzogiorno brings southern Italian cooking — bold, regional, and produce-led — to what is a grand street-level corner room with high ceilings and large windows. The Northall Bar remains open as a separate all-day bar serving breakfast, cocktails and an all-day menu on a walk-in basis. The Garden is a mosaic-tiled courtyard open year-round with seasonal alfresco menus. Crystal Moon Lounge serves afternoon tea beneath a chandelier of 1,001 Baccarat crystals. Velvet, created in partnership with the acclaimed drinks expert Salvatore Calabrese, operates most evenings with live music. In-room dining runs 24 hours.
GHA DISCOVERY — Earning on the Stay
Corinthia London participates in GHA DISCOVERY as part of the Corinthia Hotels brand. The programme’s rewards currency is Discovery Dollars (D$), where D$1 equals USD$1. Members earn a percentage of all eligible net spend back as D$ — room rate, dining, spa, and other hotel charges all count. The earn rate scales with tier: Silver members earn 4%, Gold 5%, Platinum 6%, and Titanium 7%. D$ can be redeemed against hotel charges at check-out, or used toward Local Experiences and Offers. There is a minimum redemption of D$10.
D$ expiry is tier-dependent: Silver D$ expire after 12 months, Gold after 18 months, and Platinum and Titanium after 24 months. At a property where a single night’s room rate can comfortably exceed £500, earning 7% back as Titanium represents D$35 or more per night before dining and spa spend. Those D$ can be applied on a future Corinthia stay or at any of GHA’s 950+ participating hotels across 50 brands worldwide — Kempinski, Anantara, Capella, Pan Pacific and others are all within the network.
There is no UK credit card that earns GHA DISCOVERY D$ directly. Accumulation is entirely stay-based. Members who book direct — via ghadiscovery.com, the GHA app, the Corinthia website, or the hotel reservations team — receive a 10% discount on the best available rate and are eligible for elite benefits. Third-party bookings do not earn D$ or trigger elite recognition.
Elite Benefits — What Titanium Gets Here
| Benefit | Notes |
|---|---|
| D$ earn rate | 7% of net eligible spend. D$ expire after 24 months. Silver: 4%, Gold: 5%, Platinum: 6% |
| Room upgrade | Double upgrade (two room categories above booked room type), subject to availability at check-in. Platinum receives a single category upgrade, subject to availability |
| Complimentary breakfast | Corinthia Hotels is not a participating brand for the GHA Titanium breakfast benefit. Breakfast is not included for Titanium members at Corinthia London and must be purchased separately or included in a room-and-breakfast rate |
| Check-in / check-out | 11am early check-in (subject to availability). 4pm late check-out (subject to availability) |
| Welcome amenity | Enhanced welcome amenity for Titanium (above standard Platinum welcome). Exact form determined by the hotel |
| 48-hour room guarantee | Room type guaranteed when booked up to 48 hours before arrival via direct channels |
| Status sharing | Titanium members can share their status with one other GHA DISCOVERY member (must have qualified through nights, spend or brand stays — not via status match or partnership) |
| Member rate | 10% or more off best available rate when booked direct. Available from Silver upwards |
| Qualifying for Titanium | 30 nights OR USD$15,000 eligible spend OR stays at 3 different GHA brands in a membership year. The three-brand route is the most accessible: one night each at three GHA properties in a calendar year qualifies |
Corinthia Hotels does not participate in the GHA Titanium complimentary breakfast benefit — do not book expecting it. Breakfast must be added separately or included in a room-and-breakfast rate. The Titanium double upgrade, however, is worth pursuing: at a property with 51 suites and 7 penthouses, a double upgrade from a standard room opens up meaningful possibilities. Book the lowest room category in your desired tier — say, a standard room — and the double upgrade policy puts suite-level accommodation within reach, subject to availability at check-in. Book direct to be eligible. If you hold Platinum or Gold status elsewhere and want a quick route to Titanium, three one-night stays across three GHA brands in the same calendar year qualifies you — Corinthia can be your first night of three.
Practical Notes
ESPA Life access: Spa facilities including the thermal floor and vitality pool operate on a slot-booking basis for capacity management. Contact the ESPA Life team directly before arrival to reserve your time slot if spa use is central to your stay. Walk-in access to the thermal floor is not guaranteed.
Kerridge’s Bar & Grill bookings: The restaurant is independently operated and bookable directly via its own reservations line (+44 20 7321 3244) or email. It is popular and takes reservations well in advance, particularly for dinner and at weekends. Being a hotel guest does not guarantee a table — book ahead.
No pets: Corinthia London does not accept pets.
Dress code: Smart casual is the stated standard across the hotel’s bars and restaurants. The Velvet bar operates a stricter atmosphere in the evenings.
D$ redemption: D$ can be redeemed against the room rate, dining and spa charges at check-out, and can also be applied during the online booking process for eligible room rates. The minimum redemption is D$10. Promotional D$ (earned via promotions rather than stays) expire after six months regardless of tier.
Corinthia London is as close to a consensus best-in-class London five-star as exists outside the handful of ultra-luxury palace hotels. The building, the rooms, the spa, and the restaurant line-up all operate at the top of their respective categories, and the TripAdvisor score of 4.8 across more than 4,000 reviews reflects a product that consistently delivers what it promises. For the GHA DISCOVERY member, the earn rate is straightforward — 4–7% cashback in D$ on all eligible spend, redeemable across a network that includes some of the world’s best independent hotels — and the Titanium double upgrade at a property with this suite stock gives the programme genuine aspirational value.
The key programme caveat: Corinthia Hotels does not participate in the Titanium complimentary breakfast benefit. This is a significant omission at a property where breakfast for two will add meaningfully to the bill. If breakfast is important to your stay, price in a room-and-breakfast rate from the outset rather than booking room-only on the assumption that Titanium covers it. Everything else about the Titanium package — the double upgrade, the 4pm check-out, the 11am check-in, the 7% D$ earn — applies in full and represents excellent value at London five-star room rates.
