If you are booked into Virgin Atlantic Upper Class, you may have received a pre-flight email telling you that by dropping off at the dedicated Upper Class Wing at London Heathrow, you can avoid the airport’s drop-off charge. It sounds like a genuinely useful perk. But Virgin Atlantic’s own website appears to tell a different story.

The airline’s ‘Where to find us’ page — which provides directions to the Upper Class Wing at Terminal 3 — states clearly that passengers must register their car for the applicable Heathrow drop-off charge before arriving. There is no mention of any exemption or waiver for Upper Class travellers.

The two pieces of information directly contradict each other — and the stakes are not trivial. Since January 2026, the Heathrow drop-off charge stands at £7 per visit. Drivers who fail to pay face a Parking Charge Notice of £80, reduced to £40 if settled within 14 days. The charge is enforced by automatic number plate recognition cameras, so there is no way to avoid it after the fact.

Upper Class passengers planning their journey could reasonably arrive expecting to pay nothing, only to find a charge applies — and potentially a significant fine if they have not registered their vehicle in advance.

⚠ WHAT TO DO NOW

Until Virgin Atlantic clarifies the position, Upper Class passengers travelling via the Wing at Heathrow Terminal 3 should register their vehicle and pay the £7 drop-off charge in advance via the Heathrow drop-off charge portal. Payment must be made by 11:59pm the day after your drop-off. Do not rely on the pre-flight email wording until this discrepancy has been formally resolved.

What the Pre-Flight Email Says

The Heathrow Drop-Off Charge

The Heathrow Terminal Drop-Off Charge increased to £7 per visit on 1 January 2026, up from £6 in 2025. It applies to all vehicles entering the designated drop-off forecourts at all terminals, including Terminal 3 where the Upper Class Wing is located. Drivers have until 11:59pm the following day to pay online. Those who do not pay receive a Parking Charge Notice of £80, reduced to £40 if paid within 14 days. The charge is enforced entirely by automatic number plate recognition — there are no barriers or toll booths.

We have approached Virgin Atlantic for comment and clarification on both points: whether the drop-off charge is genuinely waived for Upper Class Wing passengers, and whether the pre-flight email wording will be updated if it is not. We will update this article as soon as we receive a response.

In the meantime, we would strongly advise Upper Class passengers not to rely on the pre-flight email wording. Register your vehicle and pay the charge in advance to avoid the risk of an £80 fine.
